The city of Faro, capital of district, is located in southern part of Portugal, in the Algarve Region, and 275 km away from Lisbon. The city is also head of the municipality, which is divided into six parishes. The municipality has a population of 58051 inhabitants and covers an area of 201 km2.

Faro has a population of 41934 inhabitants, an area of 11,5 km2, and a population density of 3646,4 inhab./ km2.

The city is known for its excellent conditions for tourism, which is considered a key element for the growth and economic development of the region and the city itself.
